Process Goals (SWINS)
Process Goals (SWINS)
As we move into 2025 we are often asked to deliver large scale conferences and presentations designed to re-energise the clients main goals, values and aspirations in order to positively move forward into the New Year. All this is great fun and generates a lot of good will and enthusiasm. This is the ‘Big Talk’ uniting under a common goal. As the year wears on and the day-to-day demands of work take hold, how do we keep up this positive momentum? We do not want our goals and values to go the way that many a New Year commitment does and are forgotten after three weeks as the reality of what it takes to achieve it kicks in.
Big goals and big visions require big commitments. This can be daunting. The key to sustaining momentum lies in breaking that vision down into less intimidating smaller bites spread strategically over the months. In with the ‘Big talk’ we need the ‘Little Talk’. What small practical differences can individuals and groups make in their everyday working lives that will help them move one step closer to the goal. To keep enthusiasm, identify the quick wins. What can we do that may not require a big investment but will give a positive boost to morale. After all, remember how to eat an elephant … one bite at a time.
Most importantly, if we are asking people to behave in a different way, we must ensure they have the capacity to deliver the change we are looking for. Do they have the resources and skills to succeed. If people feel they do not have the ability to deliver, it will not be long before they become disheartened and eventually disengaged.
Here at Macnaughton McGregor we not only deliver the ‘Big Talk’ but we help our clients carry their vision forward with the ‘Small Talk’. We work with clients over the year breaking the organisation’s visions down into digestible bites of action and helping all levels with the personal skills necessary to effectively deliver positive change.
