ON COURSE FOR MANAGEMENT EXCELLENCE AT THEATRE ROYAL
Sixteen managers from Newcastle’s prestigious Theatre Royal this week successfully completed a six month training course in leadership and management development.
The Investing in Leadership course, which was run by Newcastle based training and development company Macnaughton McGregor Ltd, will contribute towards the Theatre’s programme of work designed to help it secure the Investors in People standard (IiP).
A team of ten line managers and six senior managers took part in the course, heralding from every department within the Theatre, including executive direction, marketing, box office, technical, business development, education and finance. Training was delivered by Macnaughton McGregor directors Audrey Macnaughton and Fiona Macaskill, who also designed the programme.
The course entailed a full day’s commitment by the whole group, every month between May and October this year, and featured training and guidance on: the role of a manager; how to improve personal effectiveness; communication and influencing; managing and reviewing performance and developing teams.
It is part of a wider range of policies and practices (including Competencies and Staff Development Reviews) that the Theatre is implementing to help gain accreditation for IiP, a process which is estimated to take approximately 18 months in total.
Fiona Macaskill said: “Working with the Theatre Royal Management team has been absolute pleasure. Both individually and as a team we have seen them develop and grow as individuals and a management team. We hope that Investing in Leadership has made a contribution to the continued success and exciting future of the Theatre Royal.”
Joanne Stott, HR officer at the Theatre Royal, said: “Although we have now had the last workshop, this really is just the beginning for us. We have completed the first stage of a major journey towards developing the skills of our already dedicated management team and making us the very best we can be.
“The Theatre is a very special place to work and we have a very strong team here, but we are never complacent and always looking to maximise potential and provide the best training opportunities we can to our staff. Audrey and Fiona have proved a real hit – not only has the training been very informative and useful, but the whole group have fed back on how much they have enjoyed taking part.”
