Regional leaders take centre stage in new training initiative
A series of new assessment days organised by a Gosforth-based training consultancy has put dozens of business managers from across the region on the road to leadership success.
One day long Development Centres have been completed by Macnaughton McGregor under a contract which saw managers selected to benefit from a North East Productivity Alliance’s (NEPA) funded Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) accredited programme.
The initiative involved a team of trainers assess individuals from local companies for leadership talent and communication and problem solving abilities.
The programme used a wide range of exercises and activities, with participants checked for individual levels of skill and knowledge before being put forward for the most appropriate ILM training course.
Macnaughton McGregor provides a blend of professional, pragmatic and business focused training, skills and expertise.
Macnaughton McGregor director Fiona Macaskill said: “The programme saw how participants handled work simulations using professional actors, how they analysed and presented information and worked in teams to solve problems and make decisions.
“The approach was extremely successful, and those involved definitely benefitted from the one-to-one coaching and support to complete their own personal development plan.”
Eighty managers from BAE Systems, The Expanded Metal Company, Rocket Medical, Metro Mail and A J Scott among others were identified for their leadership potential.
Now, many have improved their management skills and are on the way to boosting their careers as result of participation in the ILM course.
Barry Mudd, project manager at BAE Systems said: “The Development Centres were very useful and opened my eyes to the very latest in leadership thinking and techniques.
“I definitely feel that I benefitted and have been able to use some of the things I learnt at my job, improving the way I do things and becoming a much better manager and motivator.”
Macnaughton McGregor Ltd has been recognised for its training, coaching and mentoring success through achieving Investors in People status, reflecting its commitment to people development.
All contracts are carefully planned and managed to ensure that the consultant with the most relevant experience is chosen to lead the account.
The lead consultant is supported by colleagues, thus ensuring that a professional service is provided at all times and enabling specialist expertise to be introduced as appropriate.
This approach means that clients have a senior individual as a point of contact and also have the benefit of drawing on other expertise as and when required.
