John Ross   BSc (Hons) Chartered FCIPD

Background:
An extensive background in a variety of senior HR roles for an international pharmaceutical organisation, John has over 25 years experience in managing the HR side of manufacturing business. Latterly in the role of HR Director for Europe, John was responsible for 9 plants in 7 countries and c4,500 permanent employees and he managed c16 subordinate functional staff in Germany, Holland, France & Russia.

A personable style, John has the ability to work with managers at all levels to help them to manage the people side of business more effectively. He has a particular talent for carrying out organisational reviews and helping to implement management structures and systems. He also specialises in HR development including developing and agreeing contracts of employment and basic employment procedures for a range of businesses.

Recent Contracts
Working on a range of assignments in the local North East area. Clients have ranged from local authorities to major manufacturing sites and small businesses to voluntary organisations and charities. Typical assignments have included:

  • Designing a salary benchmarking exercise for annual review of all positions with a large pharmaceutical employer in Northumberland.
  • Analysing and making recommendations on management and supervisory job structures for a large manufacturer in Northumberland.
  • Carrying out a comprehensive review of personnel policies in a Local Authority, redrafting policies and establishing a new format for their presentation.
  • Designing and implementing assessment centre approaches for the selection for positions up to Senior Manager level in local and national organisations.
  • Carrying out an organisational review for a charitable group in the care sector to achieve a 15% reduction in overhead cost.
  • Co-ordinating an organisational change initiative to refocus a regeneration body in Sunderland, prepare them to become independent from Local Authority control and recruit to key positions in the new structure.
  • Carrying out a desk top review of HR operations in a major North East Public Sector organization and providing recommendations for the realignment and refocus of the function.
